Halal Supply Chain: The APAC positition in the Global Market

Halal Industry Development in the WorldThe halal industry has developed into one of the most dynamic and promising sectors of the global economy. According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy report, the global halal market value is estimated to reach more than USD 2 trillion, covering food, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and financial services.

This development is driven by the increasing Muslim population, increasing awareness of halal consumption, and innovation in halal technology and services. Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa are the main regions that lead in halal product consumption. However, non-Muslim majority countries such as Brazil, Thailand, and Australia also contribute significantly as halal product exporters.

This shows that the halal industry is not only relevant to Muslim majority countries, but also a global business opportunity. The food and beverage sector, with a trade value of 1.267 trillion USD, is the largest halal industry in the world. Indonesia, which has a Muslim majority population, is the largest halal food market in the world with a total expenditure of 146.7 billion USD. According to the Global Islamic Economy Report, the global halal industry reached $2 trillion in 2021. This figure is projected to increase to $2.8 trillion by 2025.
